1973 Mercedes-Benz 280S owned by the Swedish king is for sale

In 1972, Mercedes-Benz presented a luxury sedan and the first model to be officially called S-Class, the Mercedes-Benz 280S. It was produced until 1980, and one has just been offered at auction. It is a 1973 Mercedes-Benz 280S that was owned by the Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf until 1979.

King Carl XVI Gustaf was crowned in 1973, and the same year the royal family bought this Mercedes. Carl XVI Gustaf is the longest-serving monarch in Sweden’s history, having ruled for 50 years.

This Mercedes-Benz 280S is powered by a 2.8L six-cylinder engine with a Solex carburetor, producing 158 hp (118 kW) and 166 lb-ft (225 Nm) of torque. The engine is paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. It reaches 62 mph (100 km/h) in 11.5 seconds with a top speed of 118 mph (190 km/h).

The car is finished in black and is in pretty good condition. However, to restore it to its royal appearance, some work is required. The interior is upholstered in a combination of blue fabric and vinyl, and air conditioning is not part of the equipment.

The Mercedes-Benz 280S will be offered at Bilweb Auctions on September 21, and the estimated value is between SEK 120,000 – 150,000 (€10,000 – €12,600).

1986 Aston Martin Virage Coupe Prototype sold for £287,500 GBP

At the 1988 Birmingham Motor Show, Aston Martin presented the Aston Martin Virage as a replacement for its V8 models. It was produced between 1989–2000 and 2011–2012. year, and it is less known that two years earlier the British luxury automobile manufacturer produced a unique Aston Martin Virage Coupe Prototype (DB2034) based on the Aston Martin Lagonda. This one of a kind car was recently sold for £287,500.

The body of this model has been shortened to give it a two-door design similar to classic cars like the Ferrari 400. It is powered by a 5.3-liter V8 engine paired with a five-speed ZF manual transmission. It was Aston Martin’s attempt to produce a competitor to the Porsche 964 Turbo and BMW 850i of the 1990s.

At the beginning of 1990, the company gave the ‘green light’ and agreed to completely rebuild the car to full customer specification. The chassis was rebuilt, and the suspension was replaced with components intended for the Virage production model. Acceleration is improved while top speed is reduced to around 150 mph. In February 1993, a new Virage engine was installed.

RSR-Style 1973 Porsche 911T Coupe is up for auction

Porsche 911T Coupe is a timeless automotive masterpiece that seamlessly blends the iconic design of the 911 with modern engineering excellence. Vintage Porsche 911T Coupes are truly collectible cars, especially modified ones like this RSR-Style 1973 Porsche 911T Coupe, which is up for auction.

This Porsche 911T Coupe is powered by a modified 3.6L flat-six engine paired with a five-speed 915 manual transmission. The engine modification was done by Rothsport Racing, and during the build JE pistons, titanium valve spring retainers, and MoTeC engine management as well as a GT3-style front oil cooler and center-exit exhaust system were installed. It is mounted on black-finished 17″ alloy wheels wrapped in 245/40 front and 275/40 rear Hoosier race tires.

The car is finished in Sepia Brown, has been properly maintained and is in good condition. It is equipped with RS-style bumpers, an aftermarket rear spoiler, front splitter, cut-off switch on the cowl, vented Lexan quarter window panels, 911R-style taillights, H4 headlights, front hood pins, front and rear tow hooks, coilover rear suspension , adjustable sway bars, and a front strut tower brace.

Inside, GTS Classics fixed-back bucket seats are upholstered in black leather with green tartan fabric centers. In front of the driver is a three-spoke MOMO steering wheel behind which is a five-digit odometer showing 168,421 miles. Additional equipment includes Schroth four-point harnesses, a wood 917-style shift knob, Rennline aluminum pedal covers, a Sony head unit with Bluetooth connectivity, a Carrera RS dash badge and a roll bar.

The car comes with a spare set of wheels and tires, a ducktail spoiler, and a clean Oregon title in the seller’s name.

The auction ends on September 20 and the current highest bid is $5,000.
