Jeep is recalling 200k vehicles due to windshield defrosting issues

After Jeep recalled 44,000 cars last year due to a potential risk of fire while charging the batteries, Jeep is recalling nearly 200k plug-in hybrid vehicles again, due to problems with windshield defrosting. This applies to the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe, vehicles manufactured within the last three years.

Jeep announced that it had to reprogram the ECU software in 139,318 Wrangler 4xe, and 59,825 plug-in hybrid Grand Cherokees. Owners will have to wait until April 5, when they will receive a call from an authorized service center that will fix the error free of charge.

Stellantis accepts responsibility for the error, although they only became aware of the problem midway through last year, while investigating malfunctioning defrost systems that occurred over the winter. The new models received new software, so if you are planning to buy one of the Jeep models, you don’t have to worry.
