Ford Mustang stays loyal to the V8 engine

In 1964, Ford introduced a series of cars with, currently, the longest manufactured nameplate, the Ford Mustang. After six decades and six generations of this model, Ford still remains loyal to the V8 engine, despite the fact that most manufacturers have completely abandoned internal combustion engines.

The seventh generation will be powered by a 5-liter naturally aspirated Coyote V8 engine with 486 – 500 hp (362 – 373 kW), depending on the market. The Mustang is an icon of the American auto industry and has been one of the best-selling sports cars for years, and soon it could get a GTD version based on the Mustang GT3 racer. The GT3 was developed in cooperation with M-Sport and is powered by the Coyote engine-based 5.4L naturally aspirated V8. However, the GTD will be powered by a 5.2-liter V8 engine with more than 800 hp (597 kW).

Their main competitors in the American market, Chevrolet and Dodge do not share the same opinion when it comes to V8 engines. The Camaro and Challenger models are no longer available with this type of engine, leaving muscle car fans without the sound of their thunder.

Last summer, Ford introduced the fully electric Mustang Mach-E Rally powered by two electric motors, one on each axle, with a total output of 480 hp (353 kW) and 652 lb-ft (884 Nm) of torque. This caused a lot of resentment among fans of this model, and Ford tried to calm it down a bit with the Ford Mustang EcoBoost model, which is powered by a 2.3-liter four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine with 315 hp (235 kW) and 350 lb-ft (475 Nm) of torque.

New Ford Mustang with European specs

In September 2022, Ford officially presented the new generation Ford Mustang, and since then it could only be ordered in the United States. Now, the Ford Mustang, officially the best-selling sports car in the world last year, is also available in Europe with European specs.

The car comes in two body styles (Coupé and Cabrio). Its muscular appearance is adorned with thin LED headlights, an aggressive grille and an expanded color palette that includes three new shades (Ember Blue, Vapor Blue and Splash Yellow). Ford points out that the convertible has a fully lined folding roof that can be raised or lowered in eight seconds. Despite the folding roof, the Mustang still has enough space in its trunk, e.g. for two golf bags.

Both versions come with a lot of additional equipment (optional) and a lot of personalization options as well as a significantly changed interior design. This includes higher quality materials and fewer analogies. The old instrument panel has been replaced by an adaptive 12.4-inch display in combination with a high-resolution 13.2-inch display of the multimedia system.

Owners have a choice of 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmissions, a standard Performance Package that includes an auxiliary engine oil cooler, a lightweight rear axle cooler and cooler, Brembo brakes, and a limited-slip differential. The European version will be equipped with unique chassis tuning, larger rear balance bars, more powerful front shock absorbers and front and rear shock absorber housing stiffeners, intelligent adaptive cruise control with “stop and go” function, lane keeping system and collision avoidance system, emergency braking assist system when moving backwards, as well as a system for recognizing traffic signs with speed limit assistance, and 19-inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero PZ4 tires.

When it comes to the powertrain, the European Mustang is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine with 446 hp (333 kW) and 398 lb-ft (540 Nm) of torque, down from the American model’s 487 hp (363 kW) and 415 lb-ft (562 Nm) of torque. A high-performance active valve exhaust system, which is an option for US buyers, increases output to 493 hp (368 kW) and 417 lb-ft (566 Nm) of torque.

The most powerful version, the Mustang Dark Horse, is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine with 453 hp (338 kW) and 398 lb-ft (540 Nm) of torque, which is also less than the American version’s 507 hp (378 kW) and 417 lb-ft (566 Nm) of torque.

When it comes to price, they vary from country to country. In Germany, the Mustang GT costs 59,900 euros, while in neighboring Austria it costs 86,000 euros.

1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 is up for auction

In 1969, Ford presented one of the rarest and highly valued muscle cars to date to fulfill Ford‘s need to homologate the 429 semi-hemispherical engine for NASCAR racing, the Mustang Boss 429. It was produced until 1970, and 1359 cars left the production lines. One of them, a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 is up for auction.

Mustang Boss 429 is powered by a 7.0L 429ci V8 engine with a factory output of 375 hp (280 kW) and 450 lb-ft (610 Nm) of torque at 3400 rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Lok differential. It sits on 15″ Magnum 500-style wheels wrapped in 205/70 Goodyear Polyglas GT tires.

This car is finished in Candyapple Red, well maintained and in good condition. It is equipped with a front spoiler, a vented hood, dual side mirrors, a rear spoiler, Boss 429 badging, dual exhaust outlets, a Traction-Lok differential, revised control arms, a higher-rate front anti-roll bar than other Mustang variants, a rear anti-roll bar, a competition suspension with staggered rear shocks, and power-assisted brakes with discs up front and drums out back.

Inside, high-back bucket seats are trimmed in black vinyl that also covers the door panels, rear bench, center console and dashboard, with color-keyed carpets, and simulated woodgrain appliqués on the dashboard. In front of the driver is a three-spoke wood-trimmed steering wheel behind which is a five-digit odometer showing 4,407 miles. Additional equipment includes the Interior Decor Group–Deluxe and Visibility Group packages, and it features a Philco AM radio, a dash-mounted rally clock, deluxe seat belts, and courtesy lights for the glovebox, ashtray, and trunk.

The car comes with the removed factory wheels, a window sticker, two build sheets, an owner’s manual, and a clean Missouri title.
