KAMM 912c Targa weighs less than 800kg

The Hungarian company that creates lightweight cars designed to be driven has unveiled one of its new projects, the KAMM 912c Targa. It is an ultra-lightweight car based on the Porsche 912.

The car weighs less than 800 kilograms thanks to the use of carbon fiber components such as body panels and a roll bar, while the side mirrors, rear seat parts and windows are made of Lexan polycarbonate. This means that it weighs as much as the first-generation Smart ForTwo coupe, but unlike it, this car has sporty characteristics. It is painted in Tangerine and additional equipment includes alloy wheels that resemble classic steel ones, a carbon roof rack with a surfboard.

When it comes to the powertrain, the original 1.6-liter air-cooled four-cylinder engine has been replaced by a 2.0-L engine with 188 hp (140 kW) and 151 lb-ft (205 Nm) of torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed dogleg gearbox, offering a choice of long, short and touring gears. It should also be noted that the car has a TracTive semi-active front and rear suspension, as well as a set of Brembo brakes with a hydraulic handbrake, for a better driving experience.

The starting price of this car is 395,000 euros, and KAMM offers customization of each car according to the customer’s wishes.

Porsche 912 Restomod

Between 1965 and 1969, Porsche produced one of its sports cars that was an entry-level variant of the 911, the Porsche 912. It was offered in compact 2+2 Coupé and Targa body styles with an air-cooled 4-cylinder engine taken from model 356.

The Hungarian company Kamm Manufaktur will present a restomod of the 912 called the Kamm 912c, which will be available at a price of €325,000. The car has kept its original shape and the steel parts are replaced by carbon fibers, which reduced the weight from the original 968 kilograms to 750 kilograms. It is equipped with an adjustable suspension that includes coilovers with custom tuning, reinforced chassis, Lexan windows, new shock absorbers, Brembo aluminum brakes and a set of new tires.

Inside, the design from the Porsche 912 has been retained with some changes such as carbon seats replacing the original ones and plenty of accessories made of lightweight materials.

The standard Porsche 912 is powered by an air-cooled 1.6-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine with 90 hp (67 kW) and 98 lb-ft (133 Nm) of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission with a limited-slip differential. However, Kamm Manufaktur installed a new 2.0-liter flat-four engine, produced by JPS Aircooled, with 170 hp (127 kW).
