First photos of the new Jeep Compass

In March, Stellantis announced the arrival of the third generation Jeep Compass, which should arrive on the market by the end of the year. It will be produced in Italy, at the Melfi factory, and now we have the first photos of the car.

Jeep recently released a teaser showing that the new Compass will retain the seven-slat front grille, but will also get new headlights like those on the Recon model, and new taillights with LED graphics. It will also be equipped with plastic protective elements, which give it a little more robustness.

The car will be built on the STLA Medium platform, which will be shared with several models from the group such as the Peugeot 3008 and 5008, Opel Grandland, DS 7 and the new Citroen C5 Aircross. The interior brings a large multimedia system, several physical buttons, plenty of storage space, a panoramic roof and an electrically operated sunroof, a Head-up display and leather upholstery with contrasting stitching.

When it comes to the powertrain, the new Compass will be offered as a hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric. Stellantis claims that this car will have best-in-class performance and cutting-edge technology. Whether that’s true remains to be seen after the car makes its debut.

Stellantis announced the new generation of Jeep Compass

Stellantis owns 14 brands, some of which are becoming unprofitable for one of the largest conglomerates in the world, but the group is trying to get out of it and keep them all. One of the brands that recorded a 9% drop last year is Jeep, but the company is announcing a new generation of Jeep Compass.

What we know so far is that the new Compass will be based on the STLA Medium platform, which is also used by several models from the group such as the Peugeot 3008 and 5008, Opel Grandland, DS 7 and the new Citroen C5 Aircross.

Jeep has released a teaser that shows that the new Compass will have a standard seven-slat front grille, new headlights like those on the Recon model, and new taillights with LED graphics.

When it comes to the powertrain, the Compass will be offered as a hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric. Stellantis also claims that the new Compass will have best-in-class performance and cutting-edge technology.

The European version will enter production later this year and will be assembled at the Meifi plant in Italy. In the meantime, production at the Brampton plant in Canada has been halted while Stellantis reviews its product strategy for North America.

The future of Maserati is uncertain

Lately, Maserati has been fighting a tough battle to survive, and now comes another bad news that could further complicate the future of the Italian brand. According to the latest information, Stellantis gave up an investment of 1.5 billion dollars, which would have been a large injection and a possible way out of the current crisis.

In an interview with Autocar, Stellantis’ chief financial officer Doug Ostermann said that the company must review its plans, which includes abandoning investments. “We have to recognize the dynamics in this business, especially in the Chinese market, and our expectations in terms of how quickly the luxury market will switch to electrification,” Doug Ostermann said.

This decision will particularly hit Maserati, whose sales are not at the expected level, and sales results for 2024 show that the brand is recording large losses. In 2024, Maserati sold only 11,300 cars (- 57.5%) and made a financial loss of 260 million euros. This situation could put a large number of jobs at risk, so the FIM union has scheduled a meeting with Maserati management for March 11.

“Maserati is in one of the most critical situations. Despite its quality and high-performance models, the brand is suffering from marketing mistakes and negligence. We can no longer waste time,” said FIM Secretary General Ferdinando Uliano.

It remains to be seen whether Maserati will survive the current crisis or become another Italian brand that has become a thing of the past.
