Gigafactory 3 produced 2 million Tesla cars

In 2019, Tesla built its first car factory in China, Gigafactory Shanghai (Gigafactory 3), with a capacity of 750,000 vehicles per year. It took only four years for the factory to produce the 2 millionth vehicle.

Gigafactory Shanghai is the largest in the world and the first Tesla factory to open outside the US. With a size of 860,000 m2, in addition to the production of vehicles, the factory is also used for the production of components and testing. This factory produces the Model 3 and Model Y. In July, the factory produced the millionth Model Y, whose production began in January 2021.

The factory has become an export center for the American electric car manufacturer. By the end of July, more than 215,000 Tesla vehicles were exported worldwide, while more than 325,000 cars were sold on the domestic market. Electric vehicles produced in GF3 are exported to Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America. Currently, the factory’s supply chain consists of 95% locally produced components, while 99.99% of employees are local residents.

Since last year, a series of upgrades have begun in preparation for the facelifted Model 3 that was unveiled on September 1st. The new Model 3 is expected to further boost Tesla’s sales in China. It was recently announced that the factory can produce one car in just 40 seconds.

Tesla Cybertruck

In 2019, Tesla unveiled its Cybertruck, promising that mass production would begin at the end of 2021. It was part of a marketing ploy with Tesla bragging about production ahead of schedule, which did not happen. However, 18 months later, it was announced on the official Twitter account that Tesla built the “first Cybertruck” in Giga Texas.

Tesla has not provided any information for a long time, and the latest was that production of the Cybertruck will begin this summer and that deliveries are planned for the end of the third quarter. This means that this eccentric pickup is well on its way, and even ahead of the planned production and delivery dates, since the American media reported that they heard a little earlier that Tesla had already informed suppliers to be ready for the start of production of the Cybertruck at the end of August.

Many already doubt that Tesla will meet the second delivery deadline at the end of September. They believe that it is better for management and factory workers to fine-tune the production and supply chain so that production and deliveries run smoothly.

There is no new information about the car. What is known for now is the information published in 2019. Its exoskeleton body is built from Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel for ultimate durability and passenger protection. Its low center of gravity provides extraordinary traction control and torque. It is powered by three electric motors with a total output of 805 hp (600 kW) and 1,033 lb-ft (1,400 Nm), which is enough to push the car to 62 mph in just 3 seconds with a top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h). It has a range of up to 500 miles.

Tesla Model 3 is the best selling electric car ever

When the Tesla Model 3 was introduced in 2017, the company hoped that it would bring success, but they had no idea that it would take only 3 years for it to become the best-selling electric car ever. It is Tesla’s main product and is still the cheapest car in the offer of this American manufacturer.

Back in 2006, Musk announced the Model 3 as likely to be affordable by most people able to purchase new cars. It arrived with an acceptable price very close to conventional cars and without limitations in terms of autonomy and charging speed. Just seven days after its premiere, Tesla received 325,000 reservations, bringing in a potential revenue of US$14 billion.

In the middle of 2017, the first car left the production lines, and it took only a year to reach a weekly production of 5,000 cars, and three years later, the millionth copy of the Tesla Model 3 left the production line. It was an impressive result.

Despite the problems Tesla had in the past, such as mechanical issues or safety issues, the company still managed to maintain its place as one of the leaders in the electric car market. They continued to invest in a new production plant in Europe and an ecological paradise next to the Giga Texas plant that will have the capacity to produce 500,000 vehicles a year.
