The new Toyota GR86 could hit the market soon

After the recent announcement that it was withdrawing the GR86 model from the European market, information appeared that Toyota is preparing the third generation of this model, which could arrive on the market in 2025.

What most people are interested in is the powertrain that could power the new generation Toyota GR86. According to some rumors, Toyota could opt for two hybrid options: a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine or a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine. The second option has a slightly better chance.

New rumors suggest that the engine could be similar to the 1.6-liter G16E-GTS three-cylinder engine that powers the Toyota GR Yaris and Toyota GR Corolla, but with more power (about 300 hp and 276 pound-feet of torque) and a hybrid system. This could mean that the choice of a 6-speed automatic or manual gearbox could be retained to send power to the rear wheels.

It is also rumored that the car could be built on a modified platform used by the Lexus IS. That would mean a length of 4400mm, a width of 1800mm, a height of 1300mm and a wheelbase of 2600mm.

Toyota GR Corolla MORIZO limited edition

Following the recently unveiled GR Corolla, Toyota has prepared a special limited edition of this model that will join the special Core Grade and Circuit Edition models. The car was created in honor of Toyota President Akio Toyoda and was named GR Corolla MORIZO.

Under the hood is an upgraded 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbo petrol engine (G16E-GTS) with 300 hp (221 kW) @ 6,500 rpm and 295 lb-ft (370 Nm) of torque. Power is transmitted to all wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. It is mounted on lightweight reinforced 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

The MORIZO Edition comes with a number of performance improvements, which promises greater potential. The car is 45 kg lighter than the Circuit Edition, and this has been achieved by removing the rear seats, the speakers in the rear doors, the rear window regulator. Many lightweight materials have been used such as so the carbon fiber roof, bonnet and front door panels are made of aluminum. There are also new brake cooling vents.

Inside, the seats are upholstered in a combination of Brin Naub suede and synthetic leather with red stitching. Suede also covers the steering wheel.

Toyota did not say how many copies will be produced or at what price. Given that the number of GR Corolla Core Grade and Circuit Editions is limited to only 200 copies for 2023, the same can be expected for MIORIZO.

After GR Yaris, Toyota and Gazoo Racing used the same recipe and created the long-awaited GR Corolla that will delight fans of pure C-segment sports cars.

The car is equipped with aluminum doors and bonnet. With the Circuit Edition package comes a carbon roof, but also Torsen differentials with a mechanically limited lock. Price and performance data have not yet been released, and the first copies should arrive in showrooms in the second half of the year. Unfortunately, the car will not be offered in Europe.

Under the hood will be an upgraded 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbo petrol engine (G16E-GTS) with 300 hp (221 kW) @ 6,500 rpm and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) of torque. The same Gazoo Racing engine premiered at GR Yaris. Power is transmitted to all wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission with a ‘rev-matching’ function. It is mounted on lightweight reinforced 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 235/40 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires.

For efficient braking and stopping, there are brakes with 356 mm discs (front) and 297 mm discs (rear).
