BMW stopped producing ICE in Germany

It is official! On November 10, BMW stopped producing the ICE in its factories in Germany. This does not mean a complete cessation of these engines as production will continue in other BMW plants (Austria and Great Britain).

According to BR24, the last engine produced was the V8, and the 1,200 employees at the Munich plant will start producing electric cars. The new BMW Neue Klasse series will be produced in this factory, and the first model in this series should reach the market in 2025.

This is not a surprise considering that all car manufacturers have already announced that they will switch to the production of fully electric cars by 2035. However, two years ago the Bavarian company confirmed that it will have its in-line 6-cylinder turbo petrol engine, along with a larger and more powerful V8 option. Former BMW M department head, Markus Flasch said in a statement to German media that the company has a technical solution for its turbocharged petrol engines. These engines are already installed in BMW M models, so by fitting with the new Euro 7 standard, the engines will still be on offer. At least until 2030.

Cadillac will make F1 engines

A month ago, the FIA approved the Andretti F1 team’s application to enter the Formula 1 championship from 2026, and now Cadillac has announced that it is currently developing an engine that will, from 2028, power this team’s cars.

The Andretti F1 team is now in commercial talks with Formula 1 management. According to the Concorde Agreement, the team is expected to pay at least $200 million in “anti-dilution” fees, which will be distributed to existing teams as a way of compensating for future money prizes. For now, there is no information about the new engine.

“We are very excited that the new Andretti Cadillac F1 Team will be powered by a General Motors engine. Thanks to our long expertise in engineering and racing, we strongly believe that we will develop a successful power unit and position Andretti Cadillac as a true team. We will race with the best at the highest level with passion and integrity that will help take the sport to the next level for fans around the world,” said GM President Mark Reuss.

This is not the first time that Cadillac engines will power a race car. In this year’s FIA World Endurance Championship, Dadillac’s IMSA GTP racing car was powered by a naturally-aspirated 5.5-liter V8 engine, and the car reached the podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the championship title.

ZF presented a pure electric braking system

When we talk about cars, the first thing that most people think of is performance, number of horsepower, equipment, but few of us think about the most important thing, the braking system. Well, ZF introduced a pure electric braking system – the braking force, at each wheel, is generated by an electric motor – giving the car a stopping distance shorter by 9 meters.

According to the company’s representative, this technology can prove its quality especially in electric cars, because braking from the pedal to the electric motor is transmitted exclusively electrically, “dry brake-by-wire”. There is no mechanical connection between these two components, no brake fluid, and the braking feel is the same.

This braking system reduces the stopping distance of electric cars by up to 17%, and at the same time, due to the reduced contact between the calipers and the disc, it reduces harmful emissions caused by braking and rolling tires. Also, this system reduces production, logistics and assembly costs, since fewer components are needed. Car manufacturers can replace the hydraulic braking system with an electric one, or they can opt for a hybrid system, a combination of a hydraulic system on the front and an electric system on the rear axle is possible.
