2025 Porsche Taycan – better than ever

The 2025 Porsche Taycan is finally here. It is a new generation of this model, which Porsche says can be considered a new model. It comes with more power, longer range, better performance, better stability and faster charging.

In the past, we have seen several photos of the Taycan prototype that has traveled more than 3.5 million kilometers in different types of tests from the big minus and the ice of the north to the scorching deserts. “The intensity and comprehensiveness of the relentless testing that the test prototypes of the redesigned Taycan had to go through was no different from the work we do when developing a next-generation model, and the result will be a Taycan that is improved in every segment ,” said Kevin Giek, Vice President of Model Line Taycan.

“We ushered in a new era of e-mobility with the Taycan at the end of 2019. It immediately proved to be a turning point and a leader of innovation in the e-vehicle segment. Now we continue this success story with the extensively updated Taycan. The model line has reached new heights in terms of performance, with exceptional dynamics At the same time, we have managed to significantly improve efficiency, range, everyday usability and comfort,” said Giek.

All three versions (Taycan, Taycan Cross Turismo and Taycan Sport Turismo) will have numerous modifications, and will be available with four powertrain options as well as rear or all-wheel drive options. The Sport Chrono package with the push-to-pass function brings a power increase of up to 70kW in a period of 10 seconds, depending on the model. This means 60 kW more than before for the standard Taycan, or 140 kW more for the Taycan Turbo S with Launch Control. The range has also been increased by 175 kilometers, to a maximum of 678 km.

The new Taycan comes with an 800-volt architecture that allows charging at a speed of up to 320 kW, which is 50 kW more than before. This means faster charging thanks to which the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 50% less time than before.

All updated versions come with adaptive air suspension as standard, while the new Porsche Active Ride suspension can be ordered as an option for all-wheel drive versions. In dynamic driving situations, the Porsche Active Ride system ensures perfect grip on the road thanks to the balanced distribution of the load on the wheels, reducing the impact of acceleration forces on the passengers.

The car is equipped with an advanced powertrain with a new engine on the rear axle that delivers up to 80 kW more power compared to its predecessor, a modified voltage inverter with optimized software, more powerful batteries, revised heat management, a next-generation heat pump and a modified recuperation and drive strategy all wheels. There are also aerodynamically optimized 21-inch wheels.

The cabin of the new Taycan is equipped with ambient lighting, ParkAssist with reversing camera, electrically folding mirrors with illuminated frames, heated front seats, Porsche Intelligent Range Manager (PIRM), heat pump with new cooling system, smartphone holder for wireless charging, connectors for electric charging on the driver’s and passenger’s side, switch for Drive Mode and Power Steering Plus. There is also an instrument panel, a central screen and an optional passenger screen with an optimized user interface with additional functions, as well as a new In-Car Video function that allows video to be displayed on the central and passenger screens.

When it comes to the exterior, the new design of the front and rear lights, as well as the new front wings further emphasize the width of the Taycan. The new headlights with high-resolution HD matrix technology and detailed optics display the four-point graphics characteristic of Porsche at night. Other features include the Porsche logo on the rear light strip, and for the first time an illuminated version of the logo is available.

1958 Porsche 356 Emory Special Speedster is for sale

At a time when electric cars are so common on the streets, it’s nice to see old cars, especially collectible ones. Such is the case with this example of Porsche’s first production car, the 1958 Porsche 356 Emory Special Speedster that is up for auction.

This Porsche 356 Emory Special Speedster is powered by a 2.6-liter “Outlaw-4” flat-four (by Jeff Gamroth of Rothsport Racing) with 260 horsepower. The engine is equipped with a sand-cast aluminum case, 6061 billet camshaft housings, Elgin billet camshafts, crankshaft stroke, Rothsport fuel injection with individual throttle bodies, MoTec-managed twin coil-on-plug ignition, and full-flow dry-sump lubrication system with coolers and a remote filter, a Fuelab fuel pressure regulator and gauge, and fiberglass shrouding. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Type 901 five-speed manual transmission. It sits on 16” billet aluminum wheels wrapped in 205/55 Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season tires.

The car was produced in 1958 as a coupe, but was converted to a Speedster more than a decade ago. Three years ago, a two-year rebuild and conversion into the Emory Special began, which included a re-contoured 550 Spyder-inspired nose with a vented oil-cooler grille, flipped decklids, Pre-A-style roll panels and raised wheel arches. It is equipped with raked headlights, a through-hood competition-style fuel filler, “Special” badging, raked beehive taillights, black canvas soft top, custom suspension, PEP adjustable shock absorbers, front and rear sway bars, and a Spyder-style shine- down license plate lamp.

Inside, the fixed-back seats are upholstered in Hydes cognac leather with basket-weave inserts, and leather also covers the door panels and dash. Oatmeal carpets cover the floors, rear shelf, and seatbacks. In front of the driver is a Derrington-style steering wheel and a five-digit odometer showing 694 miles. Additional equipment includes black rubber floor mats, latch-and-link lap belts, an Emory-branded wooden shift knob, door pockets, Classic Retrofit electric air conditioning, and a hidden Bluetooth sound system.

The auction ends on February 9 and the highest bid at the time of writing is $502,000 USD.

French government is proposing the merger of Renault and Stellantis

Renault and Stellantis are merging into a new Group that will have almost 20 brands under its roof. This Group should be created after the proposal of the French government, which is the majority owner of Renault but also owns shares in Stellantis.

Stellantis chairman John Elkann denied the merger plans, responding to media speculation about a tie-up with Renault, which he declined to comment on. On the other hand, the government has supported Renault CEO Luca de Mea’s strategy from the start to build a new electrical and software unit based in France called Ampere. However, the relationship between Renault and Ampere became volatile following the group’s 2022 exit from Russia, its second-largest market after France at the time.

The French and Italian media point out that both manufacturers have a common interest in the fight against competition, primarily against Chinese manufacturers. Although the French government is considering Renault’s merger with Stellantis, it continues to support the Renault Group’s strategy of remaining an independent carmaker with several industrial and technological partnerships.

In this situation, Renault would benefit the most, because Stellantis with its 14 brands is far more competitive with the big EV manufacturers, whose demand has been growing for years. Also, there is the option of establishing connections with Geely, Saudi Aramco, Google and Qualcomm.

Whether the management of Stellantis will accept the proposal of the French government remains to be seen.
