Vatican City purchased 40 all-electric VW cars

The Vatican launched the “Ecological Conversion 2030” project, which aims to reduce CO2 emissions by the end of the decade. The first step is to replace the existing vehicles with fully electric ones, and the recently signed contract with Volkswagen is the beginning of the realization of the project.

The contract includes the delivery of a total of 40 fully electric cars. “We are delighted to support the Vatican in this important project. This is something special for us and shows that we are absolutely competitive with our mobility solutions,” said Dr. Christian Dahlheim, Head of Volkswagen Financial Services.

Christian Dahlheim and Volkswagen’s head of sales and marketing Imelda Labbe visited the Vatican and spoke with the Pope. On that occasion, they delivered the first two fully electric ID.3 Pro Performances. The rest of the cars will be delivered in early 2024.

The ID.3 Pro Performance will not be the only Volkswagen model that will be used by the Vatican authorities. The ID.4 and ID.5 models will also be in their fleet.

VW to stop selling ICE vehicles in Norway

Norway is the leader in the world of electric vehicles, and according to data for September this year, 90 percent of the total number of cars sold were EVs and plug-in hybrid vehicles, most of which are fully electric. That was one of the reasons for VW to make a decision to stop selling ICE vehicles in this country from 2024.

In 1990, Norway abolished taxes on imported zero-emission vehicles. However, from 2023 it implements a purchase tax (25% VAT) based on the cars’ weight and on the purchase price from 500,000 Norwegian Kroner and over.

Moller Mobility Group is the largest dealer of VW vehicles in Norway, and it previously announced that it will sell only electric vehicles from 2024. However, it is not known if this also applies to VW commercial vehicles, although it may happen.

Speaking of car manufacturers, the best-selling electric car in Norway is still the Tesla Model Y (20,202 units), followed by the Volkswagen ID.4 (5,832 units) and the Škoda Enyaq (4,730 units). There are also ID.3 (2,788 units), ID. Buzz Cargo (2,624 units), ID. Buzz Pro (1,273 units) and ID.5 (1,228 units).

2023 VW ID.7 premiered at CES Las Vegas

For this year’s CES Las Vegas, which will take place on January 5-8, 2023, VW has prepared a new member of the ID family, the ID.7. This is the result of the increased demand for electric vehicles, but also Volkswagen’s success with its EVs, of which 500,000 cars have found new owners.

It is built on the same modular electric MEB platform that is used for the rest of the Volkswagen Group’s range of electric cars. ID.7 has slightly larger dimensions compared to ID.4, which promises a more spacious interior. Although the body is covered in camouflage, it’s still a guess what the car will actually look like when it’s fully revealed.

Volkswagen director Thomas Schafer said that the ID.7 expands the electric offer into the premium segment, as well as offering top technology and quality.

Inside, a new 15-inch touchscreen, electric sliders to control systems, an AR head-up display, and even digitally controlled air vents that automatically adjust the temperature in the car depending on the outside temperature. “Hello Volkswagen” voice controls will also be available to control basic functions. Volkswagen says that the range will be around 700 kilometers according to the European WLTP cycle.

The car will be presented on the markets of Europe, China and North America.
