Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is an all-electric beast with 1.548 HP

Four months ago, Xiaomi revealed its first car, the SU7, with which the Chinese tech giant officially entered the world of car manufacturers. It is a fully electric car that comes in three versions: SU7, SU7 Pro and SU7 Max, and now the offer has been expanded with an extreme version, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra.

This car looks like a racing version of the standard SU7 with touring-style bumpers, wide fenders, a large spoiler and a rear wing that creates huge downforce (up to 2,145 kilograms). It is equipped with a CATL Qilin 2.0 battery with a maximum discharge rate of 1,330 kWh and AP Racing high-performance brakes assisted by a regenerative braking system, which allows the car to stop from 300 km/h in just 15 seconds.

When it comes to the powertrain, the SU7 Ultra is powered by three electric motors with a total output of 1,548 hp (1,154 kW), which is enough to push the 1,900 kg car from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 1.97 seconds, 200 km/h in 5.97 seconds and 300 km/h in 15 seconds, with a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph).

Xiaomi has announced that with the SU7 Ultra, it wants to set a new record lap time on one of the most famous race tracks in the world, the Nurburgring Nordschleife, held by the Tesla Model S Plaid (7:25.23). It wouldn’t be a surprise if that happened, as the SU7 Ultra has more horsepower than the Model S Plaid and the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, which is the second-fastest production car on the track. Whether the SU7 Ultra will succeed in this remains to be seen.

Xiaomi increases production of SU7

After unveiling its first car, the SU7, Xiaomi enthusiastically announced a plan to produce 100k cars in 2024, but the latest information suggests that the number could be even higher. According to information from the company, due to the increased demand for this model, the Chinese tech giant intends to increase the annual production of SU7 by 20% (120,000 cars).

The demand for SU7 exceeds all expectations. The car is produced in the Super Factory in Beijing, which has a production capacity of 47 cars per hour (one car every 76 seconds). From June, the factory will work according to the double shift model, which will increase the production time from 8 to 16 hours a day. In this way, the monthly production capacity will increase to almost 20,000 cars. Since the end of April, Xiaomi has received over 80k reservations, and so far in May, 7,058 units have been shipped. Xiaomi has so far delivered more than 10,000 units of this model.

SU7 comes in three versions: SU7, SU7 Pro and SU7 Max. The standard version is powered by an electric motor with 299 hp (220 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque, and will have RWD. It accelerates from 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.28 seconds with a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph). It is equipped with a BYD Blade 73.6 kWh battery that provides a range of 700 kilometers. It costs $29,900.

The more powerful version of the SU7 Pro is equipped with an 800V architecture, a 94.3 kWh battery that provides a range of 830 km, and will cost $34,000. However, the most powerful version, Xiaomi SU7 Max, is really impressive. It is powered by two electric motors with a total output of 673 hp (495 kW) and 618 lb-ft (838 Nm) of torque, and has AWD. It reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.78 seconds with a top speed of 265 km/h (165 mph). It is equipped with the Xiami Pilot Max ADAS system, 800V architecture, and a CATI Qilin 101 kWh battery that enables a range of 800 km, or 510 km after a 15-minute charge. It costs $41,500.

Xiaomi intends to expand its sales and service network to 219 locations in 46 cities and 143 service centers in 86 cities. The wide network will cover almost every province, autonomous region and municipality in mainland China, ensuring wide access to the SU7 model.

Xiaomi SU7 stopped after 39 km

Two months ago, Xiaomi introduced its first car, the all-electric SU7. The car achieved excellent sales results on the domestic Chinese market, and in April Xiaomi announced that every 76 seconds one SU7 leaves the production lines at the Super Factory in Beijing, which has a production capacity of 47 cars per hour. However, customers are already having problems, and one of them reported that the car stopped after only 39 kilometers.

In early May, Mr. Wen picked up his SU7 at Xiaomi’s center in Fujian province, and a day later, while driving on the highway, the vehicle suddenly shut down. On the instrument panel, he saw a warning that the car would stop and that he should contact online support. Then another message appeared stating that the drive system had failed and that the car could not shift from drive mode to reverse. Wen left the car on the side of the road and called a towing service.

The dealer was unable to determine what the problem was, so the car will be sent to the factory for detailed analysis and diagnostics. The owner does not want the same car, but a completely new one, which is impossible because the examples that are currently in production already have their owners. Xiaomi has found a solution, so it will refund the full amount to the customer with certain cost compensations.

Xiaomi plans to produce 900,000 units in the next three years.
