1957 Mercedes-Benz 190SL is up for auction

At the 1954 New York Auto Show Mercedes-Benz unveiled an attractive and more affordable alternative to the luxurious Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, the Mercedes-Benz 190SL. The car was produced between 1955 and 1963, and around 26k cars left the production lines. One of them, a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 190SL, is up for auction.

The Mercedes-Benz 190SL is powered by a front-mounted 1.9L 4-cylinder-inline engine with 104 hp (77 kW) and 105 lb-ft (142 Nm) of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual gearbox. It reaches 62 mph in 14.5 seconds with a top speed of 107 mph (173 km/h). It is mounted on steel 13-inch wheels wrapped in 185/80 Maxxis MA-1 tires.

This car is finished in light blue and has been completely restored. It is equipped with a newly replaced driver-side mirror, chrome trim, blue soft top, antenna, hood emblem, windshield wiper motor, exhaust tip, headlight housings, door moldings, seals for the windshield, trunk, and windows. Brake booster and booster line, master cylinder, brake reservoir, parking brake cable and brake lines, vacuum booster, wheel cylinders, shocks and front shock bushings, sway bar, control arms, tie rods, and strut rod were also replaced.

Inside, the seats are wrapped in red leather that also covers the dashboard and door panels. The interior was completely restored, which included the replacement of wiring harnesses for the steering column and dash, ignition switch and keys, cabin and trunk carpets, heater box and heater and defroster ducts, shift knob, horn button, headlight switch, dash knobs, and heater trim escutcheons, ashtray and door panel armrest trim, as well as seat adjusters. Additional equipment includes a side-facing kinder jump seat, an analog clock, a rearview mirror and a retro-style push-button radio. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 89 miles.

The car comes with a copy of the build sheet, manufacturer’s literature, refurbishment records and photographs, spare parts, and a clean Florida title. No Carfax report.

The auction ends on December 26th and the current highest bid is $100,000 USD.
