2024 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600

In 2021, Mercedes unveiled its first electric truck, eActros. Since then, several versions of the eActros have been introduced with different ranges, and now the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 with a range of 500 km is coming to the market.

This truck is powered by two electric motors with a total power of 536 hp, or 805 hp at full capacity. It is equipped with three lithium-iron-phosphate batteries with a total capacity of 621 kWh, enabling a range of 500 kilometers. The charging capacity is up to 400 kW, but the company plans to offer MW charging as well, however, even without this, the truck’s batteries are charged from 20 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes. Mercedes notes that about 60 percent of their customers’ long journeys are shorter than this distance. For companies that have to cover longer distances, the eActros is ideal, as it can cover well over 1,000 kilometers in one day, and drivers can recharge their batteries during breaks.

The truck has better aerodynamic solutions, undercarriage panels, air deflectors on the A pillars, matrix LED headlights, but also more space for passengers because the cabin has been extended by 80 mm.

Mercedes claims that the eActros is as durable as the Actros with an internal combustion engine and can travel up to 1.2 million kilometers in ten years. Even after that period the batteries should allow more than 80 percent range.

1962 Mercedes-Benz 190SL is up for auction

In the mid-1950s, Mercedes-Benz introduced a two-door luxury roadster, the Mercedes-Benz 190SL. It shared styling with the exclusive 300 SL, but a much more affordable alternative. It was produced until 1963 and is offered as a soft-top convertible or with a removable hardtop. 25,881 cars were built and one of them, the 1962 Mercedes-Benz 190SL is up for auction.

This 190SL is powered by a 1.9-liter M121 inline-four engine with factory 104 hp (77 kW) and 105 lb-ft (142 Nm) of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a fully synchronized four-speed manual transmission. It is 4,390 mm long, 1,740 mm wide and 1,320 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,400 mm and a dry weight of 2,552 lb (1,158 kg). It reaches a top speed of 173 km/h (107 mph).

In 2012, the car was disassembled and completely renovated, which included repainting in metallic gray, replacement of body panels, brown convertible soft top and boot top cover as well as a driver-side mirror and bright bumpers and trim. It is equipped with a double-wishbone front suspension, coil-spring rear axles and power-assist drum brakes. It is mounted on steel 13″ wheels with chrome trim rings wrapped in 185/80 BFGoodrich Silvertown radial tires.

Inside, the low-back bucket seats are upholstered in brown leather that also covers the upper part of the dashboard and the door panels. In front of the driver are a two-spoke steering wheel and a five-digit odometer showing 454 kilometers (total mileage is unknown). Additional equipment includes an analog clock, a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio, and a rear “Kinder” jump seat.

The car comes with luggage, a tool roll, an owner’s manual, service records, refurbishment photos, and a clean Colorado title in the owner’s name.

The auction ends on October 4th and the current highest bid is $128,000 USD.

Mercedes-Benz faces recall of Euro 6 cars

In 2015, one of the biggest scandals in the automotive industry, Dieselgate, took place, when the United States Environmental Protection Agency issued a notice of violation of the Clean Air Act to the German automaker Volkswagen Group. The consequences are still visible, and now another German company is facing a similar case. Mercedes-Benz is under scrutiny from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority for allegedly cheating on the new Euro 6 emissions regulations.

This information came to the public two months ago, and the published letter shows the 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine installed in the Mercedes-Benz E350 BlueTec version. Although in 2022 the European Court of Justice banned the installation of any additional device that changes consumption values and C02 emissions, it is alleged that Mercedes used three software-controlled devices, two of which changed the performance of the engine based on a certain temperature. German authorities have ordered Mercedes-Benz to fix the problem, or the cars will be recalled.

The first deadline for solving the problem was three weeks, but in agreement with the German authorities, the deadline was extended. Mercedes believes it has already developed and implemented the appropriate software updates needed to resolve the issue. Whether this is the final solution to the problem remains to be seen.

This is not the first time that the agency focuses its attention on Mercedes-Benz. Two years ago, the same OM642 diesel engine was suspected of using as many as eight emission-cheating devices that reduced the amount of injected AdBlue to neutralize emissions.
