Porsche is targeting a new Nurburgring record for manual cars

Porsche previously announced that it will not give up the manual gearbox, and now it wants to become the king of this type of transmission. The venue will be one of the most famous tracks in the world, the Nurburgring Nordschleife, where Porsche with the 911 GT3 model will try to set the best lap time for road cars with a manual gearbox. Currently, the record is held by the Viper ACR with a time of 7:01.3.

Andreas Preuninger, director of Porsche GT development, announced the event by saying that the manual gearbox is very important for the German marque. Porsche is used to setting top times with its PDK transmission, available with seven or eight speeds, depending on the model. That’s why this venture should have been a piece of cake for the Stuttgart-based company.

Despite the fact that most manufacturers have decided to stop offering cars with a manual gearbox, not because it is more expensive than an automatic, but because some of them do not want to have two types of gearboxes on their shelves, Porsche will not do that. The Germans are more than aware that the manual transmission will be reserved only for select customers and for true sports cars like the recently updated 911 GT3, which they intend to sell in larger quantities.

If the Porsche 911 GT3 manages to set a new record, it is very clear that the Germans will show others that manual transmissions are still worth using, especially since there are very few true sports cars left in the world with this type of transmission.

The Ford Mustang GTD showed all its power on the Nürburgring Nordschleife

In June, Ford presented the most powerful and most expensive Mustang ever, which unleashed all its power on one of the most famous tracks, the Nürburgring Nordschleife, becoming the fastest American production car on this track.

On the 20.8 km long track, the Mustang GTD achieved a lap time of 6 minutes and 57.685 seconds, which is 4.3 seconds faster than the Dodge Viper ACR. Dirk Miller was the driver, and Ford is convinced that the Mustang GTD can achieve a better lap time, which they will prove next year.

This was announced by Greg Goodall, head of the engineering department in charge of this model, who said that he is confident that the Mustang GTD Coupé (with most of its carbon body panels and adaptive suspension/aerodynamics) will close the lap in less than seven minutes.

The Mustang GTD is powered by a 5.2-L Coyote V8 engine assisted by a mechanical supercharger with about 800 hp (597 kW) at 7,500 rpm, paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels.

Chevrolet Corvette C8 Z06 tested on the Nürburgring Nordschleife

The guys from the YouTube channel “Sport Auto” tested the new generation Chevrolet Corvette C8 Z06 with US Spec on one of the world’s most famous tracks, the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The car, powered for the first time by a centrally located 5.5-L engine, achieved a lap time of 7.10.51 min.

This Corvette C8 Z06 is the eighth generation of one of America’s most famous cars, and it was tested on the Nordschleife by German racer/journalist Christian Gebhardt. Also, it should be pointed out that the previous generation of this model was also driven on the 20.8 km long track, but it was a bit slower.

The Corvette C8 Z06 is powered by a 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine with 679 hp (499 kW) at 8,400 rpm and 459 lb-ft (623 Nm) of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear axle. Since it is an American model, it does not have a gasoline particulate filter. It’s mounted on 20″ and 21″ wheels wrapped in 275/30 R20 front and 345/25 R21 rear Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.

The car was almost perfect on the track, and some believe that by “removing some weight” the Corvette C8 Z06 would have a faster time. Anyway, it can be said that the test was still successful since it was faster than some of the competitors like Porsche 918 Spyder or Mercedes-AMG GT-R.
