Dacia sold more cars than Renault

The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) announced sales results in Europe for the first month of 2024, according to which 1,015,381 cars were sold. That is 11.5 percent more compared to the first month of last year. One detail that attracted attention is that Dacia, as part of the Renault Group, delivered more cars than Renault.

In January, the Renault Group sold only 92,935 cars, which is the worst result of all European manufacturers. That is 2.1 percent less compared to the same period in 2023, and of all brands within the group, Dacia sold the most cars (51,673 units), which is a growth of 7.7 percent, and 10,000 cars more than Renault. The French manufacturer delivered only 41,050 cars (-12.2 percent).

Among all European manufacturers, the Volkswagen Group had the best result with 258,402 cars sold, achieving growth of 8.1 percent, mainly thanks to Skoda, Audi, Seat and Cupra. Volkswagen did not achieve the expected result, because it sold 5,202 cars less than in 2023.

The second best in Europe was Stellantis with 183,120 cars, which is a growth of 16.9 percent. Peugeot was the best-selling brand with 57,447 cars, achieving a growth of 22.8 percent compared to January 2023.

This is a good result for Dacia, which unveiled the new redesigned Dacia Spring a few days ago. The car will be powered by an electric motor with a power of 45 or 65 HP (34 – 48 kW). It is equipped with a 26.8 kWh battery that enables a range of 220 kilometers. Many will say that the range is too short, but research has shown that buyers of this model drive an average of 37 kilometers per day, so 220 km is quite enough.

2023 was Ferrari’s best year ever

Like other supercar manufacturers, Ferrari has reason to celebrate 2023, as it was Ferrari’s best year ever. In the past twelve months, Ferrari delivered 13,663 cars worldwide, which is 3 percent more than in 2022.

Ferrari’s biggest market was Europe, where 6,063 cars were delivered, which is 1.8 percent more than in 2022. In North and South America Ferrari delivered 3,811 units (+10.6%), in Asia (China, Taiwan and Hong Kong) 1,490 units (+4%), and in the rest of the Asia Pacific region Ferrari sold 2,299 units (+2%)

This result is great, but even greater is the fact that all current models are sold out for the year 2025, so all interested buyers have to wait at least two years for their cars. However, Ferrari has already announced the arrival of three new models in the coming years.

There is not much information about the new models. The first of the new ones is supposed to be the successor to the 812 Superfast model, caught in spy photos during testing with a Ferrari Roma body, and is predicted to use a V12 engine.

Some rumors say that the second one could be the F250 as the successor to the LaFerrari model, which was produced between 2013 and 2018 in 710 examples as a coupe (500 examples) and Aperta (210 examples).

Also, rumor has it that Ferrari will not use a V12 engine this time, but a plug-in hybrid twin-turbo V6 engine based on the engine used by the 296 GTB and GT3 models. This model will be limited to 828 copies in three versions: the coupe (599 copies) which should arrive this year, 30 copies of the most powerful XX version which will enter production in 2027 and the convertible (199 copies) which will arrive by the end of the decade.

When it comes to the third model, no one knows what the decision might be. Some predict that Ferrari could introduce an entirely new model. Only time will tell.

Bentley sales results in 2023

The year 2023 was successful for a large number of car manufacturers, such as Lamborghini, which delivered 10,112 cars worldwide in the past 12 months, which is the best result in the history of this Italian manufacturer. However, some were not so successful, and one of them is Bentley, which recorded a drop in sales in 2023.

After 2022, when it recorded the best sales result, the following year did not bring growth but a drop in sales by 11 percent. There could be many reasons for this, and Bentley says that high-end consumers have felt the rising costs and economic slowdown. Drop in sales in Bentley’s biggest markets (America -9% / 3,848 units, China -18% / 3,006 units and Europe -15% / 2,376 units), had the biggest impact on the overall negative result.

“The luxury market was not immune to the challenging market conditions seen around the world in the second half of 2023. We remain cautiously optimistic for the coming year, with continued strong market-specific and model-specific global demand,” said head of Bentley Adrian Hallmark.

However, Bentley found something positive in all this. According to their data, demand for personalization, such as adding leather and wood finishes, increased by 43%. Perhaps this is a good sign for the British manufacturer as other supercar manufacturers have recorded positive results where the main players have been luxury models. However, some manufacturers of luxury products (such as Burberry) warned of a slowdown in demand for high-end goods.
