Philippine fight against car smuggling

The Philippine government has decided to step up the fight against the smuggling of expensive cars. The Philippine Customs Office has so far destroyed more than 20 cars worth over a million euros.

These are cars that have been illegally imported into the country in the past three years. The decision to destroy the expensive cars was made by the President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Roa Duterte, in an effort to seriously oppose smuggling in this island state.

At the beginning of the year, 17 cars were destroyed, such as the BMW Z1, Ferrari 360 Spider, Maserati Quattroporte, Mercedes SL55 AMG, Lamborghini Gallardo.

This time, McLaren 620R, Bentley Flying Spur, Porsche 911, Mercedes SLK, Lotus Elise, 14 copies of Mitsubishi’s Jeep model, a modified Toyota Solara and a Hyundai Genesis coupe were destroyed.

Why aren’t the cars sold at auction? The answer to this question is the intention of the Philippine authorities to send a stronger message to smugglers.
