Gunther Werks GWR based on the Porsche 993

At the recent Monterey Car Week, many cars and projects were presented, and one of them was the Gunther Werks project, the GWR. It is a restomod based on the Porsche 993.

The car is equipped with a lightweight carbon fiber body, double wishbone front suspension, integrated S ducting on the hood that generates high-pressure downforce over the front axles, tinted LED daytime running lights and headlights, boosting traction and precision handling, a front bumper with a built-in wicker, fender extraction louvers, and aero vents that channel air away from the tires, an open-air rear bumper, vented ducktail spoiler, and additional taillight vents to more efficiently expel engine heat, improving overall efficiency. There are also the ends of the exhaust pipes made with a 3D printer and the LED light strip that adorns the rear of the car. Also, the wheelbase has been increased, which is now 30 mm longer than that of the standard Porsche 993.

The interior is a work of art. Carbon bucket seats are covered in Alcantara, while carbon covers the dashboard and door panels. In front of the driver, the steering wheel is covered with Alcantara.

When it comes to the powertrain, the GWR is powered by a 4.0-L naturally aspirated 6-cylinder engine with over 500 hp (368 kW) at 9,000 rpm and 340 lb-ft (461 Nm) of torque, mated to a Getrag G50 transmission that is fully re-engineered with custom gear ratios, providing an optimal balance of performance, refinement, and touring capability. Weighing just 2400 lbs, it boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 4.8 lbs per horsepower, ensuring exceptional acceleration and responsiveness.

Gunther Werks will build just 40 cars, and pricing has not been announced.

BMW M2 upgraded by Extreme Customers

The second generation BMW M2 debuted in late 2022 in Australia and since then has been the subject of many tuners trying to make this sports car better. One of them is Extreme Customers, which took M2 to a higher level.

The German tuner added a new front splitter, side wings and a redesigned lower grille with sharp new black slats, all produced by AC Schnitzer. There’s also a new downpipe with a 200-cell catalytic converter, a new exhaust system, new carbon-finish tailpipes, a set of KW Variant 3 shocks and springs, and a new suspension that improves handling but also lowers the car while contributing to its overall appearance. At the back is a large fixed wing in Brooklyn Gray manufactured by Alpha-N and an aftermarket rear diffuser.

When it comes to the powertrain, the car is twin-turbo powered
3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine with 552 hp (406 kW), which is more than the standard M2 (459 hp/337 kW) but also the M4 Competition model. It’s mounted on a set of 20″ and 21″ Wheelforce CF.4-FF R rims wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

The VDA proposes a ban on the sale of fossil fuels in Germany from 2045

The European Union plans to ban the sale of new cars with internal combustion engines from 2035, meaning buyers will be able to choose electric or hydrogen cars, but some members are against it. Now, the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) is proposing a ban on the sale of fossil fuels in the EU from 2045.

Germany was one of the proponents to extend the sale of cars with ICE after 2035, but on the condition that only synthetic fuels are used. However, not everyone is convinced that this is a good thing. The chairman of the management board of BMW Oliver Zipse recently said that lawmakers shouldn’t rush with shutting down internal combustion engines. Instead, the EU should encourage the adoption of low-CO2 fuels as soon as possible. Not only for new cars but also for the existing fleet, because there are over 250 million cars in 27 EU countries.

“At the moment there are many indications that the European Commission is looking for a false solution whereby the ban on internal combustion engines is relaxed through an obviously misleading solution in the form of synthetic fuels,” Zipse said.

However, the VDA wants to ban the sale of petrol and diesel for new and old cars so that drivers switch to synthetic fuels, in order to reduce CO2.

Germany plans to have 15 million electric vehicles on its roads by 2030, but the reality is somewhat different, considering that this country is recording the biggest drop in sales of electric vehicles.
