Toyota is developing new gasoline engines

Toyota is currently working on two new gasoline engines, showing its commitment to keep traditional power units alive, despite many automakers switching to EVs. These are the 1.5-L and 2.0-L engines that will power the future cars of the Japanese manufacturer.

A few months ago, Toyota officially announced that it will develop new engines in cooperation with Subaru and Mazda. These engines will be efficient, powerful and ready for hybrid technology, and will be able to use alternative fuels. Toyota also mentioned that the new 2.0-L engine will be more powerful than the current 2.4-L turbocharged engine. It will be smaller and with lower fuel consumption, and will meet strict gas emissions. In addition, it will be able to use carbon neutral fuels, which will keep it alive even after the ban of traditional ICEs.

The 2.0-L engine will be produced in different versions, and the most powerful of them will deliver almost 600 hp without electric assistance, which is really impressive for a small engine. According to some rumors, Toyota could use these engines for some cars that are almost forgotten like the MR2 Roadster. There is also a high-performance GRMN model, which could use a 2.0-liter engine combined with Toyota’s GR-Four all-wheel drive. However, that version could only be sold in Japan in a limited number of copies with a price tag of around $70,000.

For standard road cars, Toyota plans two versions of the 2.0-L engine. The high-performance version will develop 400 hp (298 kW) and 405 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque, while the weaker version will come with 300 hp (224 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque.

Unique Porsche 993 Speedster Sonderwunsch

At the 2024 Monterey Car Week, Porsche unveiled a custom-built car for avid car enthusiast and collector, Italian architect and industrial designer Luca Trazzi. It is a yellow Porsche 993 Speedster Sonderwunsch.

The Porsche 993 is the fourth generation of the Porsche 911 model sports car manufactured between 1994 and 1998 in four body styles: Coupe, Convertible, Targa and Speedster. However, Porsche never officially offered the 993 in Speedster body style. Only two cars are known to have been produced – a dark green Speedster for Ferdinand Alexander Porsche and a wide-body silver Speedster for Jerry Seinfeld.

This is the third example of the 993 in the Speedster body style, finished in an Otto Yellow color specially created for the customer. It was produced in the Porsche Sonderwunsch program and differs in its design and technical components from its predecessors. The project is based on the 1994 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet, which underwent a complete transformation including a redesign of the fabric roof, rear and interior. It is equipped with a unique rear fascia personally designed by the customer, a shorter windshield, retro-inspired tapered mirrors, front bumper, side skirts and rear panels. There are also tinted four-point LED headlights, full-length taillights with turn signals, and black 18″ Turbo wheels with yellow accents.

Inside, black leather with yellow stitching covers the dash, door panels, steering wheel and seats with embroidered “Speedster” lettering on the headrests. There are also carbon details and illuminated door sill plates, as well as a uniquely designed luggage compartment and bag. Also, the owner can enjoy the Porsche Classic Communication Management infotainment system that combines a classic look with navigation and Apple CarPlay system.

This 993 Speedster Sonderwunsch is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.8-L 6-cylinder engine with 304 hp (226 kW), mated to a 6-speed manual transmission that sends power to the rear wheels.

2025 Rimac Nevera R

At the beginning of August, Rimac Automobili removed all posts from their official Instagram profile and started publishing new short videos and photos announcing something new, radical, rebellious and relentless. It is a new version of their supercar, the Nevera R.

This extreme version of Nevera is more powerful and aerodynamic than ever. It is powered by four electric motors with a total power of 2,107 hp (1,571 kW), which is enough to push the car to 100 km/h in 1.81 seconds and 200 km/h in 4.38 seconds. Rimac claims that the Nevera R needs only 8.23 ​​seconds for the 1/4 mile (402 meters), while it reaches 300 km/h in 8.66 seconds. It is equipped with a new 108 kWh battery and can reach a top speed of 350 km/h (412 km/h with manufacturer supervision).

Speaking about the Nevera R, Mate Rimac said that they were developing a car with the characteristics of a Grand Tourer, which would be spacious, comfortable and finely balanced between exciting and radical. He also pointed out that the team is constantly adapting to the wishes of customers, because many were looking for a car that would really highlight Nevera’s ability to drive, using all the advanced technology, which they finally succeeded with this car.

Thanks to the large rear spoiler, the improvement of which depends on the new diffuser, the total downforce on the Nevera R is increased by 15 percent compared to the previous model. Also, the aerodynamics of the electric beast have been improved by 10 percent, according to Rimac Automobili. The interior of the Nevera, which is focused on the driver and extremely adaptable, has been added with new color options and adjustments according to the customer’s wishes. The color on the carbon elements, such as the basic structure of the control panel and the decoration on the center console, can be identical to the color of the exterior or changed according to the wishes of the customer.

Unlike its predecessor, the Nevera R is finished in Nebula Green and is equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, which with ceramic EVO2 brakes, with a layer of special silicone coating, enable better performance and durability. Also, the transmission of torque to all wheels has been revised, in order to take advantage of tires that have better grip, which enables more precise entry into turns, the Drift driving mode has been calibrated, and the steering has been revised for better steering feel and throttle response. Rimac claims that the R utilizes the greater potential of each element related to agility and handling.

The company’s plan is to produce 40 units of the Nevera R with a starting price of 2.3 million euros (around $3.47 million).
