BMW is developing a new racing car based on the M2

BMW M Motorsport has announced the arrival of a new racing car from the second generation of the BMW 2 Series, which will thus join the other racing cars of this series produced in the last decade.

“Proximity to our customers is something we cultivate at BMW M Motorsport. From our point of view, this includes offering mass-market racing cars that teams and beginners can afford, while offering them BMW M Motorsport technology at the highest level. We are delighted to we can announce the successor to the M235i Racing, M240i Racing and M2 CS Racing models. Our engineers are working to optimally prepare the car for customers,” said Bjorn Lellmann of BMW M Motorsport.

Five photos of the new racing model have been published, but there are no details about it yet. It appears to be based on the M2 rather than the lesser 2 Series versions such as the 220i, 230i or M240i. Also, certain modifications are expected to make the car ready for the track.

Although the car is covered in camouflage, some details such as a new front spoiler and a large rear lip spoiler can still be noticed, while the kidney grille and air intakes look like the one on the road model. Also, if you look closely, you can see that the car is closer to the ground than the road-going M2 and that it has new rims wrapped in Goodyear tires. Inside is a full roll cage and racing seats.

It is still not known when the car will be officially unveiled.

2025 BMW Alpina XB7 Manufaktur with more luxury

The BMW Alpina XB7 Manufaktur is an improved version of the luxury full-size SUV, which hit the market four years ago. In 2022, Alpina revealed a refreshed version of this model, on which the XB7 Manufaktur is based.

Compared to the standard XB7, this model brings some additional features to make it more attractive to customers who can now choose between ALPINA Blue metallic and ALPINA Green II metallic body colors. Also, Black or Aluminum Satin exterior elements are optionally available, which include BMW Individual Metallic paints like Gunmetal II, Jerez Black, Orinoco, Malachite Green, and Wildberry.

In the cabin, customers can choose exclusive materials, finishes, and design elements. However, the full LAVALINA leather interior option of 427 pieces of leather stands out. This option requires more than 100 hours of manual work to cut and sew, creating a unique vehicle.

Under the hood is a 4.4-L V8 twin-turbo engine with 621 hp (463 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. Power is sent to all wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission and BMW’s xDrive system. The SUV is equipped with sport-tuned air suspension, unique damper and kinematic setups, and a high-performance brake system.

When it comes to price, the BMW Alpina XB7 Manufaktur in Germany costs 190,500 euros, and the first deliveries are expected in early 2025. It still remains uncertain whether it will be available in the United States.

Oliver Zipse against the categorical ban on combustion engines

The European Union’s decision that from 2035, new cars with internal combustion engines can only be sold if they use synthetic fuels, is not considered a good thing by everyone. The chairman of the management board of BMW, Oliver Zipse, is against the categorical ban of ICE, he believes that this is a false solution due to the high development costs.

Zipse believes that lawmakers shouldn’t rush with shutting down internal combustion engines. Instead, the EU should encourage the adoption of low-CO2 fuels as soon as possible. Not only for new cars but also for the existing fleet, because there are over 250 million cars in 27 EU countries.

He also criticizes the European Commission for the lack of decisions and the lack of investment in synthetic fuels by the European Union. “At the moment there are many indications that the European Commission is looking for a false solution whereby the ban on internal combustion engines is relaxed through an obviously misleading solution in the form of synthetic fuels,” Zipse said.

His proposal is to increase investment in infrastructure across Europe to manufacture and sell synthetic fuel engines if they are seen as the solution for the near future.
