Drag races are something we often see, where various modified super powerful cars compete against each other, and at the recent Race1000 held in Germany, a very interesting car appeared, the Opel Kadett GSi with 900 HP.
This model was produced between 1984 and 1991 when it was succeeded by the Opel Astra. It was stylish for its time and was offered in several petrol and diesel options, with the GSi at the top of the range.
Opel Kadett GSi is powered by a 2.0L 4-cylinder 16V Turbo engine with 900 hp, and the power is sent to the front wheels. It is equipped with a large intercooler that is located behind the front bumper, while the rest of the car does not have any additional aerodynamic components. At least we couldn’t see them.
The car was awarded the title of the fastest front-wheel drive car, reaching a speed of 298 km/h (). How powerful this car is can be seen in a clash with two very powerful sports cars, the Dodge Challenger and the McLaren 720S. None of them had any chance against this beast.
In the first race, the Dodge Challenger had no chance against the Opel Kadett. Challenger achieved a time of 20.524 seconds, which is more than 3 seconds slower than Kadett (17.371 seconds). In the second race, the McLaren 720 S had a bad start and lost with a time of 17.777 seconds, which is 0.6 seconds slower than the Opel (17.110 seconds).
