Porsche is developing the next generation Taycan

In February, Porsche introduced the updated Taycan with more power, longer range, better performance, better stability and faster charging. Now comes word that the Stuttgart-based company is developing the next-generation Taycan.

“We ushered in a new era of e-mobility with the Taycan at the end of 2019. It immediately proved to be a turning point and a leader of innovation in the e-vehicle segment. Now we continue this success story with the extensively updated Taycan. The model line has reached new heights in terms of performance, with exceptional dynamics. At the same time, we have managed to significantly improve efficiency, range, everyday usability and comfort,” said Kevin Giek, Vice President of Model Line Taycan.

The new Taycan will be offered in three versions (Taycan, Taycan Cross Turismo and Taycan Sport Turismo) and all of them come with many modifications, four powertrain options as well as rear or all-wheel drive options. The Sport Chrono package with the push-to-pass function brings a power increase of up to 70kW in a period of 10 seconds, depending on the model. This means 60 kW more than before for the standard Taycan, or 140 kW more for the Taycan Turbo S with Launch Control. The range has also been increased by 175 kilometers, to a maximum of 678 km.

In an interview with CarSales, Taycan Manager of Charging and Energy Systems, Sarah Razavi, confirmed that the new Taycan is already in development, and said that it will not be built on the J1 platform. Although not confirmed, this could mean that the new generation will use the SSP Sport platform. Razavi also said that the goal is a longer range, and the J1 platform has limitations, so it is not able to provide it. This means a bigger battery which will be a big task for the engineers to maintain the current weight of the vehicle.

Also, last month porsche presented its most powerful production car ever, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, which embodies its track-oriented character with a redesigned body kit. It will be offered in six colors including the new Pale Blue Metallic and Sky Purple Metallic. Customers have the option to further customize the car with decals through the optional paint-to-sample program, offered by the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur department.

When it comes to the powertrain, the Taycan Turbo GT is powered by two electric motors, one on each axle, with a total power of 789 hp (580 kW) and 988 lb-ft (1,340 Nm) of torque. Thanks to Launch Control, the power increases to 1,033 hp (760 kW) or to 1,108 hp (815 kW) for two seconds. That’s quite enough to propel the car from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.2 seconds (2.1 with the optional Weissach package), 200 km/h (124 mph) in 6.6 seconds (6.4 Weissach package) with a top speed of 306 km/h (190 mph).

2025 Porsche Taycan Turbo GT – the most powerful production Porsche ever

A few days ago, Porsche revealed its most powerful production car ever, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT. It is a track-oriented fully electric car with improved aerodynamics and 1,108 hp.

The Taycan Turbo GT embodies its track-oriented character with a redesigned body kit. It is equipped with the Weissach package, which contributes to weight reduction by eliminating the rear seats, an adaptive rear spoiler with Gurney wing and an in-built splitter with integrated “air wings”, a new rear diffuser, combined with air-directing elements in the chassis, creating 220 kg of downforce. It’s mounted on a set of new 21-inch lightweight forged wheels.

The B-pillars have a carbon finish, which matches the door sills and door mirror housings. The new Taycan Turbo GT is offered in six colors including the new Pale Blue Metallic and Sky Purple Metallic. Customers have the option to further customize the car with decals through the optional paint-to-sample program, offered by the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur department.

The dark cabin is equipped with adaptive sports seats with Race-Tex and black leather upholstery and a GT Sport steering wheel. The Turbo GT logo adorns the headrests and center console. Volt blue or GT silver contrasting tones, as well as different shades of stitching, are also available as an option. The Weissach package includes an analog clock, floor mats and luggage compartment mats, as well as insulating material. Porsche even opted for a single charging port on the passenger side, as well as lighter materials in the trunk.

Porsche sales results in nine months of 2023

After last year’s record sales results, the first half of 2023 brought better numbers that also continued in the third quarter. According to the Porsche AG report, the company recorded a 12.6 percent increase in sales revenue in the nine months of 2023.

“Across all model lines, our vehicles are in high demand worldwide. At the same time, exclusivity and individualization of our products are steadily increasing,” explains Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board at Porsche AG.

Despite the large investments and other expenses that the company had this year, when it celebrates its 75th anniversary, Porsche is heavily preparing for the premiere of four new models next year. This did not significantly affect the operating profit of the company, which increased by 9.0 percent, but the operating return on sales was lower by 0.6 percent (18.3 percent) compared to the same period in 2022 (18.9 percent).

“We benefit from a robust positioning in key global regions. We have seen above-average growth in Europe, North America as well as in the ‘Overseas and Emerging Markets’ region. Our business model is based on our unique positioning in the automotive industry. Unlike niche luxury manufacturers, we benefit from scaling effects within Porsche and cost advantages due to the cooperation with Volkswagen Group,” said Blume.

In the first nine months of 2023, Porsche delivered 242,722 vehicles, which is an increase of 9.6 percent compared to the same period last year. The electric Porsche Taycan was delivered to 27,885 customers, which is 11 percent more than in 2022. “We continue to benefit from high demand and positive product mix and price effects. We have always clearly exceeded this goal – despite difficult circumstances in the supply chain and sales regions, where development in terms of e-mobility can vary significantly,” he said Lutz Meschke, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board and Board Member for Finance and IT.

Porsche has high expectations in 2024 as well, when sales revenue is expected to be in the range of 40 to 42 billion euros.
