Swiss police confiscated a Pagani Huayra Codalunga

Expensive and fast supercars are not uncommon on the roads, and sometimes drivers commit a violation that can lead to confiscation of the car. Such a situation happened in Switzerland, where the police seized a Pagani Huayra Codalunga worth $7.4m (over 6.7 million euros).

The video was posted on the @tfjj profile of photographer Freddie Atkins on Instagram, and it is not known exactly what the owner did wrong. The police also stopped the driver of the Ferrari Testarossa, but he apparently escaped without punishment. After the procedure, Pagani was escorted by Swiss police officers.

Many in the comments speculated what could be the reason for confiscating the car. Some mention the use of inappropriate license plates, and others believe that the car does not have suitable winter tires. However, the Swiss police do not forgive.

Jeep is recalling 200k vehicles due to windshield defrosting issues

After Jeep recalled 44,000 cars last year due to a potential risk of fire while charging the batteries, Jeep is recalling nearly 200k plug-in hybrid vehicles again, due to problems with windshield defrosting. This applies to the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe, vehicles manufactured within the last three years.

Jeep announced that it had to reprogram the ECU software in 139,318 Wrangler 4xe, and 59,825 plug-in hybrid Grand Cherokees. Owners will have to wait until April 5, when they will receive a call from an authorized service center that will fix the error free of charge.

Stellantis accepts responsibility for the error, although they only became aware of the problem midway through last year, while investigating malfunctioning defrost systems that occurred over the winter. The new models received new software, so if you are planning to buy one of the Jeep models, you don’t have to worry.

Mercedes will continue to develop ICE and hybrid cars after 2030

Although the EU has ordered manufacturers to switch to full electrification by the end of the decade, the latest information suggests that Mercedes may continue to develop ICE and hybrid cars after 2030. The reason lies in the decline in demand for electric cars in Europe, but also in the high prices of electric vehicles.

According to data for January, the demand for electric cars on the German market dropped by 54.9 percent compared to the same period in 2023. Some of the reasons are the decision of the German authorities to temporarily suspend subsidies for the purchase of new EVs, current state of the German economy, geopolitical tensions in the region, inflation, but also the bad infrastructure of charging stations. This led buyers to turn to proven options, gasoline and diesel cars. In January, 9.1 percent more gasoline cars were sold compared to the same period in 2023, while demand for diesels increased by 9.5 percent.

Chairman of the management board of Mercedes-Benz Ola Källenius said that PHEV cars will remain in use for years to come, regardless of the fact that plug-in hybrids were the first to be removed from the list of state subsidies.

Mercedes had high expectations when it comes to electric vehicles, but now plans and predictions are changing. Källenius believes that only 50% of cars sold by 2030 will be EVs.

Is this the only way for European manufacturers to counter the conquest of Chinese electric cars that are arriving in large numbers on the European market, or are manufacturers finally realizing that electrification is going too fast and that currently “green energy” is not green? The future will show.
