1958 Porsche 356A Speedster is up for auction

In the mid-50s, Porsche introduced the second version of its first production car, the 356A, which has attracted the attention of car enthusiasts and collectors for years. It was produced until 1959 in more than 20,000 examples, and one of them, the 1958 Porsche 356A Speedster is up for auction.

This 356A speedster is powered by an overhauled 1.6-liter flat-four engine with twin Zenith carburetors, mated to a four-speed manual transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. It sits on Silver-finished 15″ steel wheels wrapped in 165/80 Nexen SB-802 tires.

The car left the factory on October 30, 1957 with Reutter-built bodywork in Ruby Red. In the late 2000s it was completely refurbished which included a repaint in Aquamarine Blue. It is equipped with a driver’s side mirror, a Reutter badge affixed to the right-front fender, gold-color badging, and body-color bumpers with chrome guards, dual exhaust outlets that exit through the rear overriders, and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes.

Inside, the seats are covered in red leather that also covers the door panels, the upper part of the dash and the rear bench. In front of the driver are a wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel, VDO instruments with green lettering, a central 6k-rpm tachometer, a 120 mph speedometer and a five-digit odometer reading 85,603 miles.

The car comes with manufacturer’s literature, handwritten service notes, a tool kit, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a Reutter Certificate of Production, and a clean Florida title in the owner’s name. The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity lists the original colors and component numbers as well as options, including coupe seats and US-market bumpers.

The auction ends on September 11 and the highest bid at the time of writing was $100,356 USD.

Hyundai N Vision 74 is coming soon

At the recent Investor Day, Hyundai announced that it plans to introduce 21 new electric cars by the end of the decade. Some of the new EVs to hit the market in the next five years is the high-performance electric vehicle, the N Vision 74.

The story of this vehicle began in 2022 when it was introduced. In May 2024, information arrived from South Korea that Hyundai had given permission for the production of 200 road-legal cars, and production was to begin in June 2026. Each car could cost more than $300,000.

The concept is 4,952 mm long, 1,995 mm wide and 1,331 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,905 mm. It is equipped with a 62.4 kWh battery, which enables a range of over 600 km, and a hydrogen tank. It is powered by electric motors with a total output of over 680 hp (500 kW) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque. However, there is a possibility that the production car will not be equipped with a hydrogen tank.

Hyundai management seems to be playing against the wishes of its executive technical advisor and creator of the N brand, Albert Biermann, who in earlier statements did not seem interested in the N Vision 74. His position is that the job of the N brand is not to produce show cars, but cars for young people and for enthusiasts, cars that are affordable and capable on the track.

Most BMW M5 owners don’t take their cars to the track

A recent study showed that most BMW M5 owners do not use their cars on the tracks, even though they are super powerful cars. “We know that a very small percentage of M5 owners have driven on the track at least once, while almost no one does it consistently,” said Daniela Schmid, product manager for the M5.

This news comes as a surprise to some, but it won’t stop the Bavarian company from developing better M models. “It is important for us that every M model can be used on the track. If there are customers who want it, they can do it without any problems, but that potential is also available when they drive the car every day,” said Schmid.

Two months ago, BMW revealed the most powerful M5 ever, but also much heavier than its predecessor. It is powered by a 4.4-L biturbo V8 engine combined with an electric motor with a total output of 727 hp (542 kW) and 737 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. That’s enough power for the car (500 kg heavier than its predecessor) to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 305 km/h (190 mph). It is equipped with a 14.8 kWh battery that enables an electric range of up to 40 kilometers.

It should also be noted that drivers will now be able to choose two optional work programs (Dynamic and Dynamic Plus) with which this M5 shows all its capabilities. By activating them, the driver can choose to transfer all the power to the rear axle only, with the assistance of an electronically controlled limited differential lock. There is also the possibility of individual adjustment of the suspension, brakes, steering system, gearbox and drivetrain.
