Neo Motors is the first Moroccan car manufacturer

Many of you have never heard of Neo Motors. It is the first Moroccan car manufacturer, founded in 2018, which unveiled a prototype SUV in May of this year. Sales of this car will begin soon, and the company also talked about future plans, which include entering the main stock market and producing electric cars.

Neo currently has a capacity of 3,000 vehicles per year, and the plan is to increase it to 15,000 vehicles. “The Moroccan carmaker wants to increase production to 15,000 vehicles a year and within three years wants to introduce electric models. Neo is in talks with the African Development Bank about further financing opportunities,” said CEO Nassim Belkhayat in an interview with Bloomberg.

The Kingdom of Morocco has a population of 37.08 million and less than 5 million registered cars, with annual sales of less than 200k cars. The Kingdom’s plan is to become a production and trade center for both the West and China.

Peugeot, Renault and Dacia vehicles are already assembled in Morocco, and the authorities are now focusing on adding value by making key components locally. “We wanted to make a car for the masses, just like Volkswagen did a century ago. We made our own body, our own chassis and wiring system, and we source the rest from 43 local suppliers,” said Belkhayat.

Neo has so far invested 50 million dirhams ($4.9 million) in the factory in Ain Aouda, thanks to loans obtained from Moroccan banks, after a meeting of company representatives with King Mohammed VI.

The Kingdom of Morocco is Africa’s largest exporter of new cars, and Neo’s plans appear to be another step forward for the Moroccan automotive industry.

Porsche Macan EV and Porsche Cayman EV coming soon

The year when Porsche will stop producing cars with ICE is approaching, so the company is making big preparations for the production of electric cars at its main factory in Zuffenhausen. After problems in the development of the software platform, Porsche is now intensively preparing for the production of the new generation of electric Macan and 718 Cayman.

Porsche will invest around 250 million euros in the factory in Zuffenhausen, which includes upgrading the production systems and integrating the powertrain for the Macana EV. After the power unit for this car is assembled, it will be transferred to the Porsche factory in Leipzig, where the cars will also be manufactured. The all-electric Macan will hit the market next year.

Porsche has also replaced the existing production line at the factory in Zuffenhausen with an automated one, which will enable the simultaneous production of electric and ICE cars. The German manufacturer stated that standardized quality control points and approvals are integrated into the production process for both types of vehicles.

Also, the logistics areas within the body shop will be expanded, with the construction of a new building on the site of the former Porsche center. Construction should be completed by 2025, and this building will supply the workshop with body parts for the Taycan, 911 and Cayman.

Porsche Macan EV will be powered by two electric motors with a total power of more than 600 hp (441 kW) and 737 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque. It will be equipped with a 100 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and will have AWD. Thanks to the fast charger, the battery will be charged to 80 percent in just 25 minutes. When it comes to power distribution, it is known that 48 percent of the power will go to the front and 52 percent to the rear axle. Porsche will also offer a less powerful version with a single electric motor located in the rear and will have RWD.
