Juan Manuel Fangio’s 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster is up for auction

RM Sotheby’s announced the sale of the 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster. It is the personal car of one of the best drivers of all time, Juan Manuel Fangio. The Argentine was a five-time Formula 1 world champion with four different teams (Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, and Maserati), which no one after him managed to achieve.

After announcing his retirement, Mercedes gave Fangio a 300SL Roadster as a gift. The car was driven until 1986 when it was sent to his museum. It is in original condition. Seats, steering wheel, gear lever, etc., nothing has changed, which collectors know to appreciate.

It is one of Fangio’s favorite cars, as evidenced by the fact that it has more than 70,000 km on the odometer. It has been driven in Europe and South America. It is painted in a light blue metallic color reminiscent of the color of the Argentine flag. Inside, the door panels and seats are upholstered in white leather.

The auction of this unique car will take place between February 28 and March 4. It is interesting that the car will be sold in a sealed bid auction, and the final price will not be announced.

2023 Ferrari LMH

After a half-century break, Ferrari is finally back in the top class of the WEC (World Endurance Championship), which also includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This was confirmed by the head of Ferrari Attività Sportive GT, Antonello Coletta, saying that this is a big step forward for Ferrari, which will compete in the LMH class from 2023. The car is currently in the development phase, and the second phase of intensive testing of the hybrid car will begin in June at the Fiorano track.

2023 Ferrari LMH

While other participants, such as Audi, BMW and Porsche, have announced entry into the LMDh class, which will replace the LMP2, Ferrari will compete in the top class. Toyota is already participating in this class, and Peugeot has also announced its LMH (Le Mans Hypercar).

An experienced AF Corse team will be in charge of Ferrari’s LMH prototypes. “We are proud of this announcement. It is the crowning of a dream and recognition of the great effort made over the years. Our partnership with Ferrari is a winning one that began in 2006, and I am delighted to continue it in the LMH project. We have immediately kicked off with great enthusiasm aiming to raise the bar even further and to be ready for this new challenge, ”said AF Corse team owner Amato Ferrari.

It is certain that the return of Ferrari will raise the quality, but also make the competition more interesting. The team will compete as Ferrari – AF Corse, and Ferrari hopes that LMH will have the same success as the F430 GT2, which won all three titles in its debut season (team, drivers and Constructors).

Lewis Hamilton is back

The new Formula 1 season is about to begin. Many teams have announced the names of their drivers, only the Mercedes team did not know for sure who would be behind the wheel. The mystery has been solved since Lewis Hamilton confirmed his participation in the 2022 season.

Although Bernie Ecclestone recently hinted that Hamilton could end his career as a Formula 1 driver, this will not happen. Ecclestone’s statement was based on his impression after talking to Hamilton’s father: “I don’t think he’ll be back next season. His disappointment was too big after last race. Now, tied for seven titles with Michael Schumacher, it’s the perfect time for him to fulfill his dream and be a fashion entrepreneur. Also with George Russell he would have an ambitious team-mate, and could lose a lot next season. “

Did Lewis Hamilton end his career as a Formula 1 driver?

In a dramatic finale last year, Hamilton lost the title to Max Verstappen in Abu Dhabi. After that he decided to take a break and didn’t want to talk about whether it was his last season in Formula 1 or not. However, on his twitter profile he posted “I’ve been gone. Now I’m back!” thus confirming his participation in the certainly exciting new Formula 1 season.
