Honda Civic Type R Ultimate Edition

After three years, the Honda Civic Type R (FL5) is leaving the European and British markets, and on that occasion Honda launched the Ultimate Edition. It is a limited edition that will be produced in only 40 units.

This time, Honda decided that customers will not be able to choose the color of the body, but all 40 cars will be finished in the same Championship white with contrasting red details and sticker, as well as a line across the hood and a stepped pattern on the sides. On the rear wing, door sills and central console, there are many carbon accessories that make the car unique.

The interior is red and features additional lighting for the cup holder and footwell, “Type R” door sill plates and a projected Type R logo that appears when the doors are opened. Each customer will also receive a carbon key fob, custom floor mats and a unique car cover.

“As we bid farewell to an icon of Honda‘s European car line-up, we felt it was fitting to give the Civic Type R the ultimate farewell with this special model and give our customers the opportunity to celebrate its legacy. The industry is changing and our offering must evolve in line with European legislation. However, the Type R has always been Honda’s ultimate expression of our passion for the thrill of driving and we look forward to celebrating its legacy in the coming weeks and months,” said Hannah Swift, Head of Strategy and Product, Honda Europe.

Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 324 hp and 420 Nm of torque, enough to propel the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 275 km/h.

Toyota GR Yaris with Type-S Gen 2 aerodynamic kit

Japanese company HKS, which offers the best tuning products for the best driving experience, has produced an upgrade package for the Toyota GR Yaris. It is the Type-S Gen 2 aerodynamic kit that gives the GR Yaris a more aggressive look.

The Type-S Gen 2 includes a pronounced splitter made of GFRP that increases downforce on the front axle, new sills also made of GFRP, a carbon rear wing to maximize downforce, and aerodynamic additions on the edges of the rear bumper with carbon fins.

Precise data showing how much the installed components increase downforce has not been published. The Toyota GR Yaris with this package is already competing in the Japanese Super Endurance Series ST-2 class, which is definitely the best real-world test.

The GR Yaris is powered by a 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbo petrol engine with 261 hp (192 kW) and 266 lb-ft (360 Nm) of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. It reaches 62 mph in 5.5 seconds with a top speed of 143 mph (230 km/h).

Nissan’s old car batteries power Fuimicino Airport

When used batteries are removed from cars, most are recycled. However, Rome’s Fiumicino Airport is using 162 old car batteries to store electricity, as part of a project with Japanese company Nissan.

The project, called Pioneer, uses third- and fourth-generation batteries (30 and 40 kWh) taken from high-mileage vehicles and returned vehicles under warranty. The batteries are being requalified to meet high safety standards. Nissan predicts that these batteries will operate for the next six to seven years.

The Pioneer energy storage units are powered by a 55,000-panel solar farm, which produces up to 31 GWh of clean energy per year for the airport terminal. The total capacity of this energy storage system is 10 MWh, and Nissan has delivered the batteries with a total capacity of 2.1 MWh to system integrator Loccino, which is adapting and integrating them into Enel’s energy storage system.

This is not the first time Nissan has collaborated on such projects, showing that old batteries can still live on but in a different function.
