Denza Z9 GT coming to Europe

After the success in the past years, the Chinese manufacturer BYD decided to increase its offer on the old continent with its premium brand Denza. The first model to be offered to European customers will be the Denza Z9 GT.

The Denza Z9 GT was revealed last year as a competitor to the Porsche Taycan. It is 5,180 mm long, 1,990 mm wide and 1,500 mm high, with a wheelbase of 3,125 mm, which means that it is larger than the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo. Up front are angular headlights, a sculpted bumper with large openings and dramatic creases across the hood. There are also LED taillights, a roof spoiler and a secondary spoiler that extends from the trunk lid, setting the Z9 GT apart from the competition.

It is powered by three electric motors, one on the front axle (312 hp) and two on the rear axle (2 x 327 hp), with a total power of 966 hp (720 kW). The car weighs 2,875 kg, which is more than the Mercedes-Benz EQS and Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUVs, and can reach an electronically limited top speed of 240 km/h (149 mph). It is equipped with a 100.1 kWh battery, and in China, buyers can also choose a PHEV version with a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and three electric motors for a total power of 870 hp.

When it comes to price, the Denza Z9 GT costs between 41,777 and 51,760 euros, depending on the equipment you choose.

BYD officially unveiled the 1,000V platform

BYD has officially unveiled a new platform with a charging power of 1,000 kW, which will allow its cars to travel 400 km after a 5-minute charge. It is a completely new level in the world of EVs and one of the steps that could make electric vehicles more attractive to customers.

The goal of the Chinese company is to equalize the electric charging time with tank filling. The charging speed of 1,000 kW is double that of Tesla’s superchargers, which deliver up to 500 kW. This led to a rise in the company’s shares (4.1%) in China, which are now priced at 408.80 Hong Kong dollars, as investors estimated that the company could strengthen its already dominant position as one of the world’s largest electric car manufacturers. Initially, the new charging technology will be available for two new models, the Han L sedan and the Tang L SUV.

BYD also intends to install a network of 4,000 of its own “flash chargers” across China, to enable fast charging. The company did not specify a timeline or how much it would invest in building such facilities. Until now, BYD owners have largely relied on charging stations from other automakers or public charging stations run by third-party operators.

“In order to completely solve the concerns of our users about charging, we aimed to make the charging time of electric vehicles as short as possible, that is, it takes as long as the charging time of gasoline vehicles,” said BYD founder Wang Chuanfu.

BYD does not want to stop there, so a new 1,500 V platform for their construction electric vehicles is also in the development process. These vehicles will use a battery with a capacity of 2,500 kWh in LFP format, which can support ultra-fast charging of up to 600 kW.

BYD is setting new standards for all manufacturers when it comes to electric vehicles. The Chinese company announced that it is developing a 1,000 V platform that will enable ultra-fast charging. This means that a 5-minute battery charge will provide a range of 300 km.

One of the major obstacles to the rapid production of electric cars is the small number of fast charging stations, but also the long waiting time for charging, which makes most drivers nervous on long trips. That is why BYD is working on a new platform for its high-end cars. It is a 1,000-volt architecture that should enable ultra-fast charging.

The recently introduced Atto 2 supports fast charging in Europe of just 65 kW, while the Dolphin supports charging of a maximum of 88 kW. The largest models that BYD sells in Europe, the Han and Tang, should be the first to use the new technology that will enable ultra-fast charging, which means that the battery could be fully charged in about 10 minutes.

That means nothing if there aren’t enough charging stations with powerful chargers, and that’s exactly what BYD plans to do. The Chinese manufacturer is also developing a network of ultra-fast charging stations in China, and it will not be a surprise if it soon does the same in Europe.
