Porsche 911 (996) Turbo with almost 700K miles on the odometer

There are many low-mileage cars that have rarely been driven by their owners. They kept them in garages and enjoyed looking at them. However, there are also those who like to enjoy driving their cars like Tom Thalmann who has covered almost 700,000 miles with his Porsche 911 (996) Turbo.

We all know that Porsche 911 models are popular and on the wish lists of many of us, but achieving high mileage is rare. Make no mistake, this car has seen some changes. On Apex Motorsport’s Facebook page, Thalmann’s friend Eric Kaul said: “They removed the engine at 383,000 to fix minor oil leaks and replace turbos, decided to break it down to look at internals, there were maybe two bearings with very light shadowing, rest if the engine was flawless, it was not what we expected to find but were glad when we did! These engines are well built and well engineered. Every valve was mic’d and met factory spec in every dimension, couldn’t believe it.”

According to the statements of most Porsche owners, the biggest problem for the engine, when it comes to high mileage, is the IMS bearings. However, Thalmann does not agree with that, because he only replaced the engine once, even though it was in good condition. It is the result of good car maintenance.

For Thalmann, a vehicle is not just a means of transport that will take him to his destination, it is more than that. It is above all love for the car and enjoyment of driving.

Porsche is offering a roof tent for its 911 model

We are used to seeing Porsche cars with various modifications and accessories, but some are really unusual. A tent on a Porsche car is not so common, but now the Stuttgart-based company recommends owners to use a tent on their cars.

At Porsche Tequipment, they decided to expand the range of their already rich offer with additional equipment, which includes a roof tent that will be able to be placed on most Porsche models, including the 911. It is not suitable for the GT, Cabrio and Targa models, but it should also be noted that the hardcas on roof reduces the car’s top speed to 81 mph (130 km/h).

The tent is designed so that it does not require the roof racks that we see on most SUVs, and is housed in a Black/Light Gray or a Black/Dark Gray hardcase. The material from which it is made will be offered in two two-tone combinations suitable for all seasons. If you decide to buy it, you should know that with it you get high-density polyfoam mattresses (soon with heated blankets) but also that with a size of 210 cm x 130 cm (82.6-in x 51.5-in) it offers enough space to accommodate two adults persons.

The tent costs 4,980 euros and will be available from November.

Many Porsche models are already in the process of partial or full electrification, but only the legendary 911 manages to resist. According to Autocar, the new Panamera will be fully electric and will be slightly larger than its predecessor. It will be built on the SSP platform that will be used on future models.

For 2027, Porsche has announced a new generation of Taycan, and the Panamera should find its place above it. According to Autocar, the Stuttgart-based company is currently working on more advanced 800 V battery technology with higher energy density, which will definitely affect the car’s range. Currently, the Taycan has a range of 318 miles (WLTP) on a fully charged battery.

Porsche’s long-term goals are that by 2030, 80 percent of all cars sold will be electric models. Thus, for 2024, Porsche announced the arrival of the fully electric Macan as well as the 718 Cayman.
