The all-electric Porsche Cayenne will arrive in 2026

In the previous year, Porsche achieved outstanding sales results, and the highest demand was for the Cayenne model (95,604 units). The German company decided to continue on the same path, and this was confirmed by the recently published teasers showing the arrival of an improved version of this SUV, whose premiere is expected in two months.

In addition, Porsche is intensively working on a fully electric version of the Cayenne model, which should reach the market by 2026. The car will not have much in common with today’s SUV as it will use a different platform. According to Autocar, the electric Cayenne will be based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform planned for the next-generation electric Macan. The platform is being developed in collaboration with Audi, which means it will be used by the Q6 E-Tron and A6 E-Tron models.

When it comes to the powertrain, plenty of power is expected as the most powerful electric Macan will have 603 hp (443 kW) and more than 737 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque. It is expected that a new battery will be installed, more powerful than the one in the Porsche Macan (100 kWh). It will also be equipped with 800V technology.

Porsche, for now, has no intention of stopping offering the Cayenne with an internal combustion engine. Why would it, when it is currently the most desirable Porsche car.

Porsche will produce a new all-electric SUV

The increasing demand for SUV cars around the world, as well as the results achieved in the last year and the first half of 2022, have led Porsche to seriously consider a new all-electric SUV. This news was confirmed by Porsche CEO Oliver Blume.

In 2021, Porsche sold more than 300,000 vehicles worldwide, and the best-selling models were SUVs, Cayenne (83k cars delivered) and Macan (88k cars), which is an 11 percent increase compared to 2020. 2/5 of the total number of Porsche cars sold were electric models. In the first half of 2022, the best-selling Porsche models were also SUVs.

With the new electric model, Porsche wants to strengthen its position in the SUV car market. “Porsche is a leading player in the sports SUV market and in the all-electric luxury car segment,” said Porsche CFO Lutz Meschke. The car will be produced in Leipzig at the plant where Porsche currently produces the Macan and Panamera.

The long-term plans of the Stuttgart-based company are that by 2030, 80 percent of all cars sold will be electric models. Thus, for 2024, Porsche announced the arrival of the fully electric Macan as well as the 718 Cayman.

Porsche sales results in the first six months of 2022

After the record sales results achieved last year, this year will not be so successful for Porsche. In the first quarter of 2022, Porsche sold over 68,000 vehicles worldwide. Now the Stuttgart-based company announced that it delivered almost 150,000 vehicles in the first half of this year.

Due to all the difficulties faced by the automotive industry, Porsche is nevertheless satisfied with the achieved results. The pandemic and the supply chain caused the most problems. Despite this, growth was achieved in some markets. For example, in Europe, compared to last year, sales increased by 7 percent (43,087 vehicles), and in Germany alone, 13,785 vehicles were sold.

“We and our dealers have successfully navigated a first half-year shaped by external factors and uncertainties. In addition to the difficulties posed by the resurgence of the COVID pandemic in China and other markets, ongoing supply-chain- and logistics-related challenges have accompanied us. At the same time, the desirability of our brand and the popularity of our products remain strong. We expect the second half-year to be dynamic. As in previous years, we are optimistic about the future and determined to go full steam ahead with the remaining months of the year,” says Detlev von Platen, Board Member for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG.

When it comes to the rest of the world, there was a decline in sales. Despite the delivery difficulties, Porsche managed to sell 62,245 vehicles in the Asia-Pacific region, Africa and the Middle East, while in the United States the number was 32,529 vehicles. In the Chinese market, sales fell by 16 percent (40,681 vehicles).

The highest demand is still for SUVs, of which the most sold are Cayenne (41,947), Macan (38,039), Taycan (18,877). Of the sports models, the most delivered were 911 models (21,616), Panamera (15,604), 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman (9,777).

Porsche hopes that the rest of the year could bring better results, but given the current situation in the world, it will be difficult to achieve.
