Porsche produced 100,000th fully electric Taycan

In 2019, Porsche began production of the all-electric Porsche Taycan, and three years later, the Stuttgart-based company announced that it had produced 100,000 units of this model. The honor of being the 100,000th example went to the Neptune Blue Taycan Turbo S ordered by a UK customer.

This year may not be the most successful when it comes to demand for the electric Porsche Taycan as deliveries are down 12 percent compared to the previous year. The same problem affected most other companies. This could be due to problems with the delay in the delivery of parts, which led to a longer waiting list.

“We are very pleased to have reached this milestone in production history so quickly – despite the recent challenges posed by the semiconductor shortage and the volatile Covid situation. With the Taycan, we have made a decidedly successful start in the electric age,” says Kevin Giek, Vice President of the Taycan Model Line.

2023 Porsche Taycan Turbo S is the king of the Nürburgring. It is powered by two electric motors with a total power of 750 hp (560 kW) and 774 lb-ft (1,050 Nm) of torque. It reaches 62 mph in 2.8 seconds with a top speed of 161 mph (260 km/h). The new fastest lap time among electric production cars is 2 seconds faster than the Tesla Model S Plaid, 7 minutes and 33 seconds.

Also, Porsche talked about Taycan cars with more than 100,000 kilometers on the odometer, giving several examples. French entrepreneur Jean-Hubert Revolon bought a Taycan 4S in August 2020 and since then it has covered 188,119 kilometers. Guillaume Takvorian, a pharmacist from Marseille, owns a Taycan 4S with which he has covered 113,977 kilometers since June 2020. Porsche employee Markus Kreutel covered 134,911 kilometers with the Taycan Turbo from February 2021 to August 2022. The journalists of the German magazine Auto Bild, who covered 100,000 kilometers in the endurance test with the Taycan 4S since October 17, 2020, and the journalists of the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport recently borrowed the Taycan Cross Turismo 4, with which they intend to cover 100,000 kilometers in two years.

Anyway, this is a great result for Porsche.

According to Autocar, the new Panamera will be fully electric and will be slightly larger than its predecessor. It will be built on the SSP platform that will be used on future models.

For 2027, Porsche has announced a new generation of Taycan, and the Panamera should find its place above it. According to Autocar, the Stuttgart-based company is currently working on more advanced 800 V battery technology with higher energy density, which will definitely affect the car’s range. Currently, the Taycan has a range of 318 miles (WLTP) on a fully charged battery.

Porsche’s long-term goals are that by 2030, 80 percent of all cars sold will be electric models. Thus, for 2024, Porsche announced the arrival of the fully electric Macan as well as the 718 Cayman.

Porsche sales results in the first six months of 2022

After the record sales results achieved last year, this year will not be so successful for Porsche. In the first quarter of 2022, Porsche sold over 68,000 vehicles worldwide. Now the Stuttgart-based company announced that it delivered almost 150,000 vehicles in the first half of this year.

Due to all the difficulties faced by the automotive industry, Porsche is nevertheless satisfied with the achieved results. The pandemic and the supply chain caused the most problems. Despite this, growth was achieved in some markets. For example, in Europe, compared to last year, sales increased by 7 percent (43,087 vehicles), and in Germany alone, 13,785 vehicles were sold.

“We and our dealers have successfully navigated a first half-year shaped by external factors and uncertainties. In addition to the difficulties posed by the resurgence of the COVID pandemic in China and other markets, ongoing supply-chain- and logistics-related challenges have accompanied us. At the same time, the desirability of our brand and the popularity of our products remain strong. We expect the second half-year to be dynamic. As in previous years, we are optimistic about the future and determined to go full steam ahead with the remaining months of the year,” says Detlev von Platen, Board Member for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG.

When it comes to the rest of the world, there was a decline in sales. Despite the delivery difficulties, Porsche managed to sell 62,245 vehicles in the Asia-Pacific region, Africa and the Middle East, while in the United States the number was 32,529 vehicles. In the Chinese market, sales fell by 16 percent (40,681 vehicles).

The highest demand is still for SUVs, of which the most sold are Cayenne (41,947), Macan (38,039), Taycan (18,877). Of the sports models, the most delivered were 911 models (21,616), Panamera (15,604), 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman (9,777).

Porsche hopes that the rest of the year could bring better results, but given the current situation in the world, it will be difficult to achieve.
